Praise be to You,
For this experience.
whisked along with the crowd,
surrounded yet secluded,
walking, weeping, worshipping,
you called and I came.
squinting under the sun,
my hands held high,
asking for love and mercy,
every moment is precious.
breathing in the morning air,
praying where my prophet prayed,
wishing peace upon him,
i’ve never known peace like this.
For my companions.
a girl I just met,
who took my hand and led me,
through people strong and determined,
all the way to Your house.
someone who listened,
who shared with me,
both of us crying and smiling,
talking into the night.
a smiling leader,
who did everything and more,
only to bring us closer,
to you.
For the clarity.
i was created imperfect,
i have only been asked to try,
consistently.
in all the hustle and bustle,
it’s easy to forget
i only need You.
i am humbled, grateful, awestruck
thank you for inviting me.
what is this new longing I feel,
to have you say,
come again.

Masha’Allah, I really enjoyed many elements of this poem. It was a good reminder that Hajj is about the clarity you get in addition to the companions that come along with you for the journey. My favorite part was “wishing peace upon him / i’ve never known peace like this.” I saw the salawat as a way to send peace, but this made me realize I gain peace from giving the salawat as well.
Beautifully written…and it’s so important to capture the feelings while they’re still intense. I’m glad you’ve done so.
Jazakallahu khair! The process of writing this was a bit difficult for me, because of how many things I wanted to include, I’m glad alhamdulillah that you were able to enjoy the end result :)
Mabrook! May Allah accept your Hajj =) This is so beautiful and lifelike and brings tears to my eyes because now I can’t wait to go for mine. =) May Allah call us there many times.
beautiful sentences that are neatly arranged, very touching. thank you
