Poem

Seeds of Eternity

Our Prophet (SAW) has told us, “If the Hour is about to begin, and in the hand of one of you is a seedling; then if he’s able to plant it before the Hour happens, then let him plant it.”*

I plead that one day I will lead,
What once was a seed into a garden I need, paving the way to succeed.

We are nothing but travelers in this world
We are not here to be concerned.
An airport represents our fleeting life,
For Jannah, our destination, we strive.
Some miss their flight, forgetting their turn,
Too busy with worldly matter,
Minds filled with useless scatter.
Others fight to be first on the plane
From earthly desires, they abstain.

A seed – so small, its impact unknown
Yet still we are encouraged to have it thrown.
So how about the rest of our time?
We never know which deed will help us climb
Into Jannah, with the sublime.

Life, it passes by so quick,
Its delusions are like a trick.
Our memories fade away,
We will surely forget about today.
Old age begins to sink in,
Our end we don’t know when…
Sickness, fatigue, and death,
And until our last breath,
We strive to increase our deeds,
And be from those who exceed.

Once the final day arrives,
Standing before Allah the All-Wise,
The fact that cannot be denied,
We will be asked whether we tried.
Have we strived for our hereafter eternity?
Have we fought our desires internally?
Or have we succumbed to the tricks of this world?
Not thinking of the day we are returned
This life is meant to be a test
Only for those who understand the quest.

What if our beloved was between us?
How will you and I adjust?

What words will we pick?
Will we still fall into all the tricks?
Surely his wisdom will forever remind
Us of the truth when we are blind.

If we do not hold on to our faith tightly
Then those after us will take it lightly
Our beloved has told us that there will come a time
Where holding onto religion,
Will be like holding onto hot coal**

We must endure this life’s burn
Rather than the next life’s turn
Generations, depend on you and I,
We must plant the seed before we die.

  1. A true Muslim Youth Musing, mashaʾAllah. Sometimes I feel as though sometimes I divorce my creativity from my spirituality, but this piece showed a perfect marriage from the two. Barak Allahu feeki, may Allah ﷻ make this poem a plant for you 🌱
